  1. A6: Team RallyePotable Water Still Presented by: Tim Rodts October 26, 2006 Nicole Del Rey Mike McConnell Tim Rodts Eric Sabelhaus

  2. Design Status • Power  Pedals  Gears  Generator • Heat Source • Ceramic bowl with embedded wire heats sand; in turn heats container. • Polluted water container  Beaker • Intelligence  Temperature Sensor with Display Website

  3. Design Status • ‘Inspired’ by ASME guidelines • Currently ahead of schedule as far as starting to build prototype • Cannot program microcontroller without temperature sensor • SHOWSTOPPER: • Designing/purchasing shaft coupler that will accommodate metric generator shaft. • Packaging of all components.

  4. Semester Outlook ! In the works

  5. Action Items from Week 8 (10/10)

  6. -1- • There will be no sealant on the ceramic bowl. • Sand will be placed in bowl. A beaker will sit in the sand.

  7. -2- • Condenser connection to polluted water container now simplified. • Rubber stopper with a direction connection to the polluted water container.

  8. -3- • Front post now designed to pivot. • Rear connections permanent. • Will optimize rider comfort. • Avoids pre-stresses on base. Pivotjoint

  9. Action Items for Week 10 (10/31)

  10. -1- • Order bearings for sprocket shaft. • 8 mm shaft diameter • 39 mm hole-to-hole length. Above dimensions are have been chosen to fit safely within ring of screws necessary to mount sprocket. • Part #: 1434K33 • Price: $8.11 each

  11. -2- • Design/order shaft coupler • Needs to couple 2 shafts, 8 mm in diameter. • Needs to transmit 100% of 26 N-m of torque. • Clamping coupler vs. set-screw coupler.

  12. -3- • Continue building CAD models of all individual parts. • Create assembly. • Will allow us to troubleshoot space and packaging issues not currently visible.
