November 11, 2013 Mrs. Murrell amauldin@greenville.k12.sc.us 355-1569 News From Room 26 Important Dates 11/11- 11/12: ITBS testing 11/18: Operation Christmas Child due A Peek At The Week: Math: This week we’re beginning our new unit, two and three digit addition. Over the next few weeks, students will learn many different strategies to solve problems. The goal is to learn & understand these different strategies, then to decide what works best for each individual student. There will be a lot of focus on showing/explaining your work. Reading: We’ll be integrating science with our reading lessons this week as we learn about life cycles, focusing our comprehension on sequencing. Students will work to complete a major reading project to describe the sequence, or life cycle, of an animal. Phonics: We’ll study words with plural endings – s and –es. Writing: We’ll base our opinion writing on animals this week. Social Studies: We’ll continue discussing how citizens impact our communities. Science: Our focus will be on life cycles this week. • Parent Notes • Thank you for helping prepare your child for testing each morning. We only have one more day left (Tuesday)! Results from this test won’t be available until after Christmas. I’ll send that information when it arrives. • Our reading lessons will not come from the reading book this week. We will be reading informational texts in class about animal life cycles. Students will not be tested this week; however, they are completing a major project in class.
