  2. Setting Characters Richard Matthew Mrs. Rooney Mrs. Paris If I were Matthew I would tell Richard not to cheat. • At school • Outside • Gym • In Mrs. Rooney’s room • The setting reminds me of my school because they have a classroom too.

  3. Richard Richard has brown hair. Richard has two green eyes. He is a boy. He is white. He is mean to Matthew. He likes candy corn. He lies to the teacher. He eats 3 pieces of candy corn. He cheats when he is not very good at telling time.

  4. Author’s message • The problem In the Candy Corn Contest is Richard eats 3 pieces of candy corn. The problem was solved when he tells teacher he ate 3 pieces of candy corn. Another problem is he made fun of Matthew for wetting the bed. This problem is solved when Richard says sorry to Matthew. Richard learned not to cheat and not to make fun of people. I learned not to make fun of people.

  5. Book Recommendation • The book I am reading is The Candy Corn Contest by Patricia Giff. It is a realistic fiction book. Matthew wets the bed. Richard is not a good friend to Matthew. Richard cheats twice. He eats 3 pieces of candy corn. It teaches you not to cheat. I would definitely recommend it to my friends.

  6. Connections • Text to self = In the book, Richard said he loved candy corn. I love candy corn too. • Text to self = Richard looked at the candy corn number. When he cheated that reminds me of one of my friends cheating in partner math looking at the number. • Text to self = Richard lied to the teacher. That reminds me of my brother lying to my mom for almost breaking my leapster.
