All Students will work on the mural in some capacity Mural Jobs • Project Manager (1) – Oversees total project • Responsible for: maintaining the vision and purpose of the project, ensuring all members are on task, ensuring work gets done, monitoring progress • Art Coordinator (1) – Oversees mural development • Responsible for: carrying out the vision of the mural, works with the project manager to assign builders and art specialists tasks, ensures inclusion of inspiration pieces into work • Builders (2) – Build wooden structure to hold mural • Responsible for: creating wooden structure to hold mural, attaching canvases to wooden structure, assisting art specialists when complete, follow directives from Art Coordinator • Art specialists (5) – Creating the artwork for the mural • Responsible for: completing the painting, drawing, mixed media, etc. for the mural, follow directives from Art Coordinator • Head of Marketing (1) – Oversees development of proposal presentation • Responsible for: Developing a written proposal and PowerPoint (?) presentation to present to “sell” the painting, working with project manager to assign tasks to researcher, writer, and presenters • Researcher (1/2) – Gathering all information for written proposal and presentation • Responsible for: Gathering all information needed for the written proposal and presentation, follow directives from head of marketing • Writer (1/2) – Putting together written proposal • Responsible for: writing written proposal, follow directives from head of marketing • Presenters (1/2) – Putting together PowerPoint Presentation • Responsible for: creating PowerPoint presentation, leading presentation to Hebebrand, Skoglund, TR, follow directives from head of marketing

WPA (Works Progress Administration) • A program created by President Franklin Roosevelt as part of the New Deal • Paid artists to create posters for the government and murals in public places • History Detectives Episode • How were the WPA creations controversial? • Who was Diego Rivera? • What is a fresco? How is it different from canvas painting? • What were the historical “gaps” in finding out if the art work was authentic from the WPA? How was it finally confirmed or denied?
