  2. Welcome to Russia • Russia is country of ancient places of interest. • Moscow isthe capital of Russia, one of the largest cities in the world. • It stands on the bank of the Moskva-River.

  5. St. Basil’s cathedral • St. Basil’s cathedral erected by architects Postnik and Barma to commemorate Russia’s conquest of the Kazan Kingdom in 1552. It is a masterpiece of Russian architecture. Eight chapels surround the main chapel with a picturesque roof.

  6. There are three cathedrals in this square: • The cathedral of Assumption • The cathedral of the Annunciation • The cathedral of the of Archangel

  7. The heart of Moscow is the Kremlin, a wonderful architectural ensemble with three magnificent cathedrals.

  8. Let us enter the Kremlin and look at the sights within its walls. We are in Cathedral Square now. It is one of the oldest squares in Moscow. The exiting Cathedral Square ensemble was formed at the end of the 15th century.

  9. The cathedral of the Annunciation was built in 1484-1489. It was used as a home church of Russian grand dukes and tsars. It is known for its oil paintings done by Andrew Rublev and his pupils.

  10. The cathedral of the Archangel was built in 1505-1508 for more than two hundred years. The cathedral was the last resting place of ruling grand dukes and tsars

  11. There are 46 tombs in all, for example, the tombs of Ivan Kalita, Dmitry Donskoy, Ivan 3, Ivan the Terrible and his sons.
