FOUR YEAR COLLEGE • Applications are due between November 1 and March 1. • Colleges require transcripts, GPA, SAT scores, teacher recommendations. • Students must complete the Red and Green folders to obtain transcripts and recommendations. • Most colleges require a minimum of a 3.0 GPA and 1400 on SAT’s. • Students earn a Bachelors of Art or Science at a four year school.

  6. HOW TO APPLY TO FOUR YEAR SCHOOL 1. Complete Application online for the school you wish to apply. 2. Complete the red and green folder process. 3. Have your SAT/ACT scores sent directly to the college.

  8. RULES OF THE GAME • Review high school transcripts of all students and identify the candidates you wish to grant admission.

  9. PROCESSING QUESTIONS • Who did you admit (what numbers)? • What factors did you consider? • What issues/challenges did your group encounter? • What lessons did you learn from this game?

  10. MORAL OF THE GAME • It is highly competitive to gain admission to college. • Colleges have different levels of selectivity. • Variables beyond your control are factored into the admission process. • Be sure to be realistic and open minded when applying.

Process in RHS Counseling Office • Transcripts and letter of recommendation Complete waiver of rights to receive red and green folders In Red folders: • Complete transcript release form listing all colleges to which you are applying • Complete counselor input form • Include $4 dollars for each transcript and an envelope addressed to each of your colleges (except common app schools) • Include a resume • Be AWARE of DEADLINES!

TEACHER RECOMMENDATIONS In Green folders: • Write the teacher a letter requesting recommendation • Complete teacher input form listing all the colleges to which you are applying • Answer the four questions on the teacher form • Include a stamped addressed envelope for each college you are applying • Be AWARE of DEADLINES! • WRITE A THANK YOU NOTE!   15. Two- Year SchoolTransfer options • Howard Community College or CCBC (Community College of Baltimore County) • Earn AA degree and then transfer to Four year college as a junior. • Students go for two years at HCC and then finish junior and senior year at four year school.

Two- Year SchoolCertification Programs • HCC or CCBC offer associate degrees, certificates, letters of recognition and professional certificates in dozens of fields of study. • Examples: • EMT, Pharmacy Technician, Massage Therapy, Hospitality and Culinary Management, Nursing, Vet Tech, Dental Hygienist, Paralegal, Television and Radio, Respiratory Therapist.

  20. HOW TO APPLY TO VOCATIONAL SCHOOLS 1. Visit the schools website and check the admissions page. 2. Take a tour of the school. 3. Complete financial aid information.

WHAT IS AN APPRENTICESHIP • Apprenticeship is a combination of on-the-job training (OJT) and related classroom instruction under the supervision of a journey-level craft person. • Will being an Apprentice help me earn more money? Yes. Apprentices are guaranteed periodic pay increases throughout their Apprenticeships, provided they successfully complete program requirements.
