  3. Introduction • Staley Middle School’s nurturing, caring, hardworking team of administrators, teachers, coaches, counselors, and staff believe it takes a village to raise a child. • Our game plan consists of fair play, firm discipline, and consistent success and, most importantly, dedicated coaches and players.

  4. Overview • RISING STAR is a mentoring program that pairs selected students with caring and committed adults. • The primary focus is to improve academics and personal aspiration of underachieving students. • Each mentor is assigned one to three students to work with consistently, so that a trusting relationship develops between the mentor and mentee.

  5. Mission Statement • Staley’s team players believe that each student is invaluable and irreplaceable. • Mentors seek to help students navigate through the everyday challenges of school, society, and the community. • We are dedicated to students’ improvements in grades, attendance, behavior, and CRCT scores.

  6. Rising Stars Goals • To promote a positive school climate that is fostered by tolerance and mutual respect. • To focus on the social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development of students. • To help every student to experience success and feel good about himself or herself. • To promote communication between home and school. • To increase test scores.

  7. The Mentor Will…. • Serve as a student’s advocate with teachers, parents, and other students. • Be a good, active listener. • Show a genuine interest in mentee. • Be willing to motivate mentee to learn and grow. • Create a positive environment.

  8. The Mentee Will…. • Appreciate mentor’s effort • Be committed to mentoring sessions. Be on time. • Share goals and concerns; Keep mentor informed. • Maintain confidentiality. • Be proactive rather than reactive.

  9. The Process…. • Selection of students • Scheduled sessions • Session activities

  10. LETTER FROM MENTEE My mentor Ms. McBrair has helped me a whole lot. My overall grades have increased, my drawing skills have greatly improved, and I have learned to control my anger. Ms. McBrair and I have gone places like Ruby Tuesday and Wally –World (Wal-Mart). She bought almost everything; we had a good time together and she was talking to me about how I should act toward my peers and teachers and that’s what my mentor has done for me. She even attends all the other mentees recreationbasketball games. I could not have asked for a better MENTOR!!!!!!!!!!! Chris Baker
