  3. Alliteration • The repeating of the beginning consonant sounds.

  4. Idiom • An expression

  5. Narrative • Tells a story by telling the details of an experience.

  6. Biographical • A story that a writer tells about another person’s life.

  7. Slang • Special words and phrases used by friends when they are talking to each other.

  8. Homophone • A word having the same pronunciation but different meaning.

  9. Persuasive • Story that tries to persuade the reader.

  10. Metaphor • Makes a comparison without using like or as.

  11. Exaggeration • A stretching of the truth

  12. Personification • Makes a comparison in which something that is not human is given human qualities.

  13. Hyperbole • Makes an exaggerated comparison for effect.

  14. Onomatopoeia • The use of words whose sounds make you think of their meaning. • Buzz, thump, snap

  15. Antonym • The opposite of a word.

  16. Autobiographical • A story that a writer tells about his/her own life.

  17. Informational • A piece of writing that gives information about a topic.

  18. Simile • Makes a comparison using like or as.

  19. Genre • A way to classify novels.
