  3. WG82 Scope Develop the necessary standards relative to the three new air/ground data-link components (airport surface, satellite and en route/TMA L band systems) Initial Mandate limited to Airport Surface Data-Link System Initial task supported by SESAR R&D activities (P15.2.7 and P9.16)

  4. Airport Surface System • Basis: existing IEEE 802.16e standard • Expected Deliverables • Aviation system profiles • System level MASPS • Airborne equipment MOPS • Ground equipment MOPS • Completion target: 2013 to include laboratory and field validation results from SESAR projects

  5. Big Picture • FAA/US activities • European Activities (SESAR, EC R&D project – SANDRA -) • Airport and Airline Interest NEED TO CONVERGE FOR WORLDWIDE INTEROPERABILITY

  6. Cooperation with RTCA No joint group (travel budget constraints) but agreement for very close cooperation toward joint documents (aviation system profiles and airborne MOPS) MASPS is expected to be a key document to be referenced by ICAO. It is identified as key deliverable from WG 82 Close Cooperation is ESSENTIAL to get single worldwide standards referenced within ICAO documents
