LAW CLERK – INTERMITTENT The Indiana Prosecuting Attorneys Council (IPAC) assists prosecuting attorneys throughout the state by preparing trial practice manuals, providing legal research, conducting training seminars, and acting as a liaison with study commissions and agencies of all branches of local, state and federal government. The law clerk works directly for a staff attorney. Primary responsibilities include research on criminal law, ethics, and administrative law questions raised by prosecuting attorneys. The clerk assists staff attorneys in communicating with prosecuting attorneys, with the preparation of IPAC manuals, model jury instructions, trial briefs, predicate questions, and pleadings. Particular subjects of emphasis include, drug law enforcement, traffic enforcement, criminal code revisions, civil forfeiture, search and seizure, prosecutorial error, release of public records, and state fiscal, monetary, and employee conduct policies. The clerk assists the administrative staff with planning and preparation for IPAC conferences and performs other duties of the office as may be assigned from time-to-time. Qualified applicants must have: Ability to analytically and critically resolve legal issues; Current enrollment or graduation from an accredited law school; Effective oral and written communication skills to include the ability to relate to professional and lay audiences; Ability to conduct thorough legal research using Lexis-Nexis, the Internet, and traditional techniques; and, Ability to produce work products using Microsoft Office. Prior employment experience with the Indiana Criminal Code is preferred. Completion of professional responsibility course(s) preferred. Applications must be submitted on or before January 15, 2013.
