  1. News from Room 120 Oct. 5-10, 2014 A Peek at our WeekReading:We will be learning all of the nonfiction features and the purpose they have in books. We will be making a nonfiction features book and continuing small reading groups. Math:We will continue to learn ways to subtract to 10 using number bonds, number lines and story problems. Reminders *Purple folders should be signed and returned daily. *Homework should be completed and turned in by Friday. *Your child should be reading10-15 minutes per night. Record minutes read on their reading log. Sound Checks/Spelling We will introduce ‘R blends’ this week. These are words that begin with the following patterns: (br, cr, dr, fr, gr, pr, tr). Our sound check will be at the end of this week using all the spelling patterns. There will be no spelling list coming home. Instead, here are example words with the sound patterns we have been studying:brag, crib, drip, from, grab, trip, fret. Upcoming Events 10/9 Open House by last names A-L: 5:00-5:45 M-Z: 5:45-6:30 10/10 Early Release 10/13 School Holiday 10/27-31 Red Ribbon Week Sight Words New Words: which, their, them, so, go, no, his, her and, to, each, is, about, his, at, but, were, when, there, one, how, out, up, me, no, they, what, all, said, your, of, with, if, do, will, as, be, in, of, an, on, for, was, we, are, from, not, had, that, have, or, by, this, she, he This will be an ongoing list each 9 weeks. Sight words will be assessed at the end of each nine weeks. Open House We will have an Open House this Thursday. Come see all the fun things your child has been working on! Last names A-L: 5:00-5:45 M-Z: 5:45-6:30 Weekly Readers You will notice a book coming home this week. Practice reading them with your child nightly and record on their reading log. Return on Friday.
