  2. FSC COMPOSITION 2010 - 2013

  3. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Felicia heterophylla: introduction of a new species in the Rules Alcea rosea: introduction of sand germination method Salvia spp.: evaluation of seedlings Helianthus debilis: to be changed in Helianthus spp. different from Helianthus annuus? Sampling: samples size (Tab. 2a part 3)

  4. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Felicia heterophylla: introduction of a new species in the Rules • F. heterophylla– Family Asteraceae • Samples size: to be based on TSW = 1.25 g • PSD 4 – Asteraceae (to be confirmed) • Validation of the germination proposed method: • TP; 20-30°C; 4-7-21; prechill & KNO3. • 2 lots ready to be distributed • experienced labs willing to participate are welcome! We need data We need another seed lot We need information

  5. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Helianthus debilis: to be changed in Helianthus spp. different from Helianthus annuus?

  6. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Helianthus debilis: to be changed in Helianthus spp. different from Helianthus annuus? - which species is/are marketed as “ornamental sunflower” - may we identify the different species by the seed? We need information We need seeds of the different species

  7. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Sampling: samples size (Table 2a part3) Subject: Submitted sample/purity sample sizes: multiplication factor between 3 and 50 For many species, the actual purity sample size is not in accordance with TSW Samples size for flower species needs to be checked and likely changed.

  8. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Sampling: samples size (Table 2a part3) Problems: Data - We need more data on TSW Seed size - For many flower species, we have varieties with very different seed size. (e.g. Cyclamen spp. TSW from 4 to 12 g) OSD – It is rarely requested, but sometimes it is

  9. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: rules development Sampling: samples size (Table 2a part3) • Possible actions: • - Collecting data • - Taking decisions: •  base the purity sample size on the largest TSW  (largest variety or subspecies)? On an average? • base the submitted sample size on the purity sample size (e.g. 2X, as it is for some species in table 2A part 1, e.g. Cucurbita spp.), adding a general rule such as “when the OSD is requested, the submitted sample must weight at least 5 times the weight listed in column 2 of table 2A part 3”. We need seeds We need information

  10. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: publications Continue Handbook with work sheets of: Amaranthus (4), Aquilegia (5), Convolvulus (1), Ipomoea (4), Chrysanthemum (1), Glebionis (3), Leucanthemum (2), Tanacetum (4), Papaver (5) 2011 Seeds of the different species missing!

  11. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: publications Left open work sheets: Consolida, Delphinium, Primula 2012 Seeds of the different species missing!

  12. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: Seeds of the different species missing! We need seeds We need data We need information How to do?

  13. ACTIVITIES 2010 – 2013: How to do? - Improving the co-operation with ISTA labs, ISTA TCOMs, AOSA, flower seed Companies • - Improving the FSC website • request for co-operation (data, photos, seeds) • publishing of documents (e.g. from the previous workshops) • information on the activities going on • how to contact the FSC • links

  14. Lathyrus odoratus PROFICIENCY TEST 11-1 KIND OF TEST: GERMINATION

  15. WORKSOPS 2010 - 2013 WORKSHOP: Asia? America? Europe? LOOKING FOR THE ORGANIZING LAB!
