  7. Lamivir HBV Tablets (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) Uses of Lamivir HBV Tablets Lamivudine HBV tablets (Lamivir HBV Tablets) are indicated for the treatment of chronic hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection associated with evidence of hepatitis B viral replication and active liver inflammation The following points should be considered when initiating therapy with Lamivudine HBV tablets : Due to high rates of resistance development in treated patients, initiation of treatment with Lamivudine HBV tablets should only be considered when the use of an alternative antiviral agent with a higher genetic barrier to resistance is not available or appropriate. Lamivudine HBV tablets have not been evaluated in patients co-infected with HIV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), or hepatitis delta virus. Lamivudine HBV tablets have not been evaluated in liver transplant recipients or in patients with chronic hepatitis B virus infection with decompensated liver disease. 8. Lamivir HBV Tablets (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) Lamivir HBV Tablets Dosage The recommended oral dose of Lamivir- HBV (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) for treatment of chronic hepatitis B in adults is 100 mg once daily. Safety and effectiveness of treatment beyond 1 year has not been established and the optimum duration of treatment is not known. The formulation and dosage of Lamivudine in Lamivir-HBV Tablets are not appropriate for patients dually infected with hepatitis B virus (HBV) and HIV. If Lamivudine is administered to such patients, the higher dosage indicated for HIV therapy should be used as part of an appropriate combination regimen. 10. Lamivir HBV Tablets (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) Storage Instructions Lamivir- HBV (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) have to be stored at controlled room temperature i.e. from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) with excursions permitted between 15° to 30°C (59° to 86°F). 11. Lamivir HBV Tablets (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) Warnings Severe acute exacerbations of hepatitis B have been reported in patients who have discontinued anti-hepatitis B therapy (including Lamivudine- HBV). Monitor hepatic function closely in these patients and, if appropriate, initiate anti-hepatitis B treatment. Lamivudine-HBV tablets and oral solution contain a lower dose of the same active ingredient (Lamivudine) as Lamivudine tablets (Lamivir) and oral solution used to treat HIV-1 infection. HIV-1 resistance may emerge in chronic hepatitis B patients with unrecognized or untreated HIV-1 infection because the lamivudine dosage in Lamivudine-HBV is subtherapeutic and monotherapy is inappropriate for the treatment of HIV-1 infection. 12. Lamivir HBV Tablets (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) Warnings Emergence of Resistance-Associated HBV Substitutions: Consider a switch to an alternative regimen if serum HBV DNA remains detectable after 24 weeks of treatment. Lactic acidosis and severe hepatomegaly with steatosis, including fatal cases, have been reported with the use of nucleoside analogues. 15. Lamivir HBV Tablets (Generic Lamivudine HBV Tablets) Lamivir- HBV Overdose There is no known specific treatment for overdose with Lamivudine Tablets (Lamivir HBV). In case overdose occurs, the patient should be monitored and standard supportive treatment applied as necessary. Since a negligible amount of Lamivudine was removed via (4-hour) hemodialysis, continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis, and automated peritoneal dialysis, it is not known if continuous hemodialysis would provide clinical benefit in a Lamivudine overdose event.
