What are Schools expected to do? • Enrol pupils for the Faith Award • Communicate with Home and Parish • Use Gathering Points • Provide opportunities for School activities • Monitor School activities • Monitor use of Faith Journals • Assess, using agreed process & criteria • Attend verification meetings • Let SCES know who has gained the award

  8. Pupils • How are pupils expected to participate? • respond to Gathering Points • note their actions & reflections in Faith Journal • commit to actions • at home ALL PUPILS • in school • in parish Some Pupils

  10. Discussion Time 1 If you have been a co-ordinator share your good practice. If this is your first year, consider what planning you need to put in place: • Gathering Points • style; frequency; links to RERC • Pupil actions • In journal, can you add other suggestions; how many do they need to achieve the award?; how does the school monitor? • Faith Journal • Why are there blank pages? What should pupils write? Reflective questions

  12. What are Parishes expected to do? • Agree to participate & support pupils • Lead Enrolment Service • Suggest suitable parish activities • Some appoint a parish co-ordinator • Monitor Parish activities • Keep Parish informed • Award Parish Commendation

  14. Discussion Time 2 • Any School Issues you may encounter? • Inclusion of all? Time for activities? • Home Issues that may be a barrier? • Support from all parents? Monitoring? • Parish Issues that you need ideas about? • Active support; parish involvement?

Move to Local Verification Why? • Award is very successful – over 5,000 pupils registered in this phase • Can take account of local context, holidays, etc. • More efficient for school management in release of staff, etc. • Cuts down on travel time • Allows teachers some ownership of the Award

  16. Local Verification • Each cluster to nominate 1 PFFA Verifier • For pilot year, the nominee will hold the post for 1 year • After that, clusters can decide how to allocate role • Good staff development opportunity

  17. Role of Verifier • Attend SCES Verification Training Meeting Jan/Feb • Arrange and co-ordinate verification events for their cluster March • Return necessary documentation to SCES by end of March

Enrol with SCES (only require numbers of pupils at this stage NOT names) • After Coordinators meeting Download Letter templates; Enrolment Service; arrange enrolment (with Parish); distribute journals and wristbands • Primary 6 Download Gathering Points; plan to teach these across the year; pupils record reflection and action in journals; plan a ‘progress check’ for end of P6 • Catholic Education Week “Check In” with parish • Primary 7 complete Gathering Points by November; “Check in” with parish CEW ; monitor journals; plan a ‘progress check’ for January P7; attend verification meeting; assess pupils; send SCES names of pupils who have gained the award
