Check Homework • How to be a better Student 1-5 • Find and bring a copy of syllabi from any other classes you are taking this Fall. • Buy 2 binders, 2 folders (one for homework and one for handouts), college ruled loose leaf paper, pens, and a planner to class on Wednesday for your first homework grade. Put paper and folders in your binder!

  3. Syllabi • Find and bring a copy of syllabi from any other classes you are taking this Fall. • Find the due dates and calendars from your syllabus. • Use your planner to record the due dates now (Use Google Calendar)

  4. Note-taking Journals. Journal 1 due September 10 Journal 2 due September 24 Journal 3 due October 8 Journal 4 due October 22 Journal 5 due November 4 Journal 6 due November 19 Due Dates for MLG 205 • Portfolio Project. • Section 1 due September 26 • Section 2 due November 7 • Section 3 due December 5

  5. Smart Goals • For each class decide • How many study hours do you think you would need for each class? • How can you prepare before each class? • What is your plan for completing major assignments?

Meetings, Lectures, & Seminars • Meeting • Lecture • Seminar 2 or more people getting together for discussion or entertainment. an educational talk to an audience, especially to students in a university or college. At work, this is a meeting for training. At college this is a meeting of a teacher and a small group of students to discuss a topic.

  8. Tips for note-taking • Use a 3 ring binder & one side of each page only • Label, number and date your notes • Leave blank space • Use a tape recorder • Takes notes in different colors

Tips on What to Write • When your professor repeats something more than once, write it down. • When your professor writes it on the board, write it down. • If your professor asks you to copy from the board, copy every word. • If your professor gives handouts with questions, try to answer the questions from his lecture. • Write down what you believe is the main topic, and his main idea in speaking.

We will discuss these in class.
