What is putting the people first • Putting people first is a new way of working in adult social care • The programme has been agreed by government to improve local services people • All local councils have been asked to look at 4 areas: • Universal serivces • Prevention • Choice an control • Social capital

  3. What are walsall doing? We have a new team in walsall looking at putting people first The team are involving lots of people in the work they are doing They are looking at things like: • New ways for staff to work • Different ways to get in touch with us • Better information • More choice and control for service users and carers

  4. Why do we need to talk to service users and carers? We want to involve service users and carers in the work to: • help us make changes in walsall • learn from their experiences We recognise you are the experts!!

  5. What does being part of the user and carer reference group mean ? We want to meet with you regularly to tell you what we are doing We want to know your experiences of using some of our serivces We will ask you to help us work out what we need to change to make things better We will want you to advise us on how best to talk to other people about what we are doing

  6. What sort of things will we talk about • How people get in touch with social care staff • Different ways of having assessments • New ways of having services like individual budgets • Different ways of providing information • What services other people offer • How to access equipment

  7. How will the group work? • We can meet as often as people want to • We will meet in a place that people like and can get to easily • We can meet at a time that suits everyone or most people • We will agree some ground rules for the group to make sure everyone can take part

  8. What happens next? • When shall we meet? • Where shall we meet? • Who else should come along? • What rules do we need to have for our meetings?
