  7. Nightly Homework Your child will have approximately 10 minutes of homework Monday through Thursday. He or she will be expected to bring it back to school the following day. Assignments may include math practice, sight word practice, Reading comprehension and/or small projects. I ask that your child does the work independently. I understand that you may need to read directions or answer questions if there are any. Each Monday, your child will bring home an assignment sheet so that you know what the homework is for the entire week. Please be sure to go over the homework and check it together before it is returned. Remember homework isn’t finished until it is in the backpack. In addition to the written homework, your child is expected to spend 10-15 minutes each night reading or being read to. As the year progresses and our reading skills strengthen, I’d like the students to spend more time reading to an adult for practice.

  8. Estimation Station • Your child will bring the estimation jar home when he/she is star student. • Please put a random amount of inexpensive items in the jar (i.e. cotton balls, crayons, buttons, legos..etc.) and return it to school. Please keep in mind that it should not be food of any kind. • We will estimate the number of items in the jar and check our answers for accuracy. • Estimation is a skill in our math curriculum.

  9. All About Me Each week, one student will be responsible for decorating our “All About Me” board. A poster will come home on Friday. Over the weekend, your child should use pictures and art supplies to complete the poster. On Monday, we will hang the poster up, as well as any other pictures, awards, artwork, or special items that are brought in. All items must be able to be hung up. Your child will have the opportunity to tell the class all about him/herself.

  10. Fun facts about our room • We listen to music and dance throughout the day. • We celebrate birthdays on or near the child’s birthday.
