  1. Our economy is in crisis and it’s hitting working people the hardest. One in eleven homes are in foreclosure - the same as during the Great Depression. We’ve lost more than two million jobs, with more lost each day. Two trillion dollars in pension wealth wiped out during the financial meltdown.

  2. It’s time for a change. We need an economy that works for everyone, where working families have a chance to do better. First concrete steps: Economic Recovery - increased federal funding to state and local governments. Pass the Employee Free Choice Act. Comprehensive healthcare reform.

  3. Lets workers (not big businesses) decide if they want to join a union, and through what mechanism. • Union workers earn 30% more than non-union workers and are 59% more likely to have healthcare coverage. • Millions of American workers would join a union to fight for better wages and benefits if they didn’t fear retaliation from their employer. • Allows formation of a union through majority sign-up. • Guarantees a contract. • Imposes meaningful fines on employers who illegally threaten, harass or fire workers. Step Two: Employee Free Choice Act

  4. Employee Free Choice Act letter outline Introduce yourself. State the problem. Tell your Representative or Senator that our healthcare system isn’t working for too many people. State your business. Explain what you want your Representative or Senator to do: Pass the Employee Free Choice Act Make it personal. Tell a personal story about the difference being in a union has made in wages and benefits for you or someone you know or about the basic right for workers to decide if and how they can join together in a union. Say “thank you” Sign your name. Print your full name and address.
