  2. Use a comma to set off Appositive phrases in sentences • An appositive is a word or group of words that renames or defines a person, place, or thing in a sentence. It gives more description to the subject/noun. • Appositives can be used to eliminate choppy sentences and make writing more economic.

  3. Example Lil Wayne is a popular artist. Lil Wayne has a new hit song. Lil Wayne, a popular artist, has a new hit song.

  4. Your Turn! • Turn the following two sentences into one sentence that uses an appositive phrase. Her dog is a collie. Her dog likes children. • Now, create your own sentence that uses an appositive phrase.

  9. Use Commas in a list • Use a comma to separate items in a list EXCEPT when and is used to join the last two items: She likes football,basketball,soccer and hockey .“
