  3. SKIMMIMNG AND SCANNING • Skimming is Searching or looking for a key word or some key words • Gives you a basic idea. • Look for the words • “Everything keeps going right –Toyota” on page 201. • Just look at the page moving from top left to right and down quickly.

  4. CURSORY READING • Fast reading without paying attention to detail. • Gives you a broad idea of the story or sub ject. e.g. fiction, adverts, news.

  5. READING WITH UNDERSTANDING • Read slowly and concentrate. • Underline key words. • Look up meanings of words. • Ask and answer questions. • Important for study material and reports manuals etc.

  6. CRITICAL ANALYSIS • Looking for meaning behind the words. • Testing the writers opinion against your own. • Evaluate what is read and • agree or disagree or praise.
