  12. Green Mountain Power – Field Order Automation Before Smart Grid, each meter was read manually (a lengthy process) Using AMI technology, 97% of meters are read automatically. Of the remaining meters, most reads are obtained by manually pinging the meter from the head end. We used SOA to orchestrate the process of pinging the 2.5% of meters that need a read and closing the field activity. This saves GMP several hours of manual labor per week. The same framework will be used to automate additional field orders including disconnect/reconnect.
