  1. Improving Your Vision - What You Need To Know About Getting Better Eyesight It’s true that people love glasses and contact lenses, but there is a huge number of people opting for LASIK and the number is consistently growing every year. One of the most common questions raised by people wish to go for the Lasik procedure is “which is better to continue with”. The answer is simple and obvious “how beautiful it would be to be free from wearing contact lenses”. While on the other hand, many believe that the Lasik procedure is riskier than wearing contact lenses. According to the recent study by researchers, using contact lenses is not always safer than choosing the Lasik procedure. Although both contact lenses and Lasik procedures are safe, they may have their own risk of complications. Contact lens risks First, wearing contact lenses leads to eye infections, irritations, ulcers, and corneal abrasions. The conditions further damage your eyes and in some cases may lead to permanent blindness. While some people continuously wear lenses leaving them overnight leads to the consequential dryness of lenses causing a scratch to eyes. Further, the irritation leads to pain and extremely sensitive to light. Sometimes the eye infection may lead to a serious problem. Second, contact lenses are expensive to buy and when buying disposable lenses the cost is approximately $250 for a year and again has to pay extra $200 for the lens solution along with doctor visits that cost around $400. Lasik procedure risks Knowing some of the risks involved in the surgery helps you to decide on whether to go for the procedure. After the Lasik procedure, there may be dryness of eyes or haloes for a couple of hours. Surgery may sometime cause infection or irritation; however, these are less when compared to those of wearing contact lenses for long durations.

  2. Advantages of Lasik procedure over contact lenses Today’s technology has improved a lot that there is an incredible amount of research that made the procedure even more effective with safety as the forefront factor. Some of the advantages of the Lasik procedure are: ❖Eye trackers – Lasers are equipped with eye trackers and so it follows the movement of the eye during the procedure. This further results in better quality in vision after the procedure. ❖Fem to second lasers – the procedure is safer than the microkeratome where they use a blade. Further, the procedure reduced the dryness of eyes and flap complications and thus offers faster healing time. ❖Wave front optimized, wave front-guided, and topography-guided lasers – All these together increased the statistical chance of improved vision by reducing the incidents of glares and halos. Advantages of contact lenses Contact lenses have certain benefits over wearing glasses although they cannot give you benefits offered by Lasik procedure. Some of them are: ❖These can be an alternative if you don’t like to wear glasses ❖Better field of view when compared with the glasses ❖Freedom to move more actively Conclusion Further research suggests that both Lasik procedure and wearing contact lenses may be a bit risky but in fact, they have their own safe ways as well. The use of contacts shows that people are willing to take a risk in the long run while getting Lasik procedure done is relatively less risky than wearing contact lenses for a lifetime. With the improvement in technology and advances in equipment and preciseness, which includes faster, blade-free lasers and with more experience surgeons across the globe, Lasik procedure has become a preferred option among people to improve eyesight.
