Henryk Wieniawski Airport Poznan-Lawica and the development of the City The process of unification of Europe requires Poznan to adapt quickly to new challenges and conditions of the market economy.Such a challenge is the opening of the city towards new economic partners, investors and tourists. Openness means,first of all, transport accessibility of the city, including air accessibility. In order to improve air accessibility, the Poznan City Development Plan 2005-2010 envisages, among others: • Launching new flights from/to Poznan • Increasing the number of served passengers • Convenient transport connection between the airport and the city • centre and the A2 motorway

Local Spatial Plan Development Plan Poznan-Lawica Airport In December 2005, Poznan City Council adopted the Local Spatial Development Plan for Henryk Wieniawski Airport Poznan-Lawica, which entered into force on the 12thof March 2006. • It facilitates the extension and investment on the premises of the • airport; • It improves transport service of the airport; • It contributes to an increase in the value of the premises owned by • Port Lotniczy „Ławica” Sp. z o.o.

  4. Financial support from the City Objectives of the Long-term Investment Plan 2009-2013, adopted in January 2009, include increasing the capital of Port Lotniczy ”Lawica” Sp. z o.o. The objective - extension of the airportinfrastructure - will be implemented among others by: modernisation of the runway construction of a parallel taxiway with a quick exit route extension of the passenger terminal extension of the apron City funds – the total amount of PLN 35 million Other funds (the Marshal of the Region, Civil Aviation Office, the Infrastructure and Environment Operational Programme) – about PLN 275 million This action is to raise the capacity of the airport to 3.5 millionpassengers

Road Investments • Road investments aimed at the improvement of transport connections of the airport are carried out by the Municipal Road Management. • Most important current projects: • Redevelopment of ul. Bukowska, connecting Lawica with the city centre and the Poznan Western Ring • Deadline for the implementation of the investment– April 2011 • Cost– approximately PLN 150 million • two-lane system • an increase in capacity • construction of access to the Cargo terminal • ul. Bukowska will connect Lawica with the Poznan Western • Ringto be constructed until IQ 2012 (a section of the S11 • express road) • The S11 road is connected with the A2 motorway

Road investments, continued • The 3rd Transport Frame – a ring road inside the city • Improvement of urban transport and enabling faster travel from • North to South • The western section will run close to Lawica (it will be connected to • ul. Bukowska) • The 3rd frame will connect the A2 motorway with the stadium and • Lawica • The City is currently at the stage of determination of funding. • Estimated cost of the western section of the 3rd Transport Frame is about PLN 1.5 billion.

Municipal transport The Municipal Transport Company ensures access to Poznan-Lawica Airport from the city centre by means of 4 bus lines: • 2 normal lines (No. 48,59) – each running every 25 minutes • 1 express line („L”) – running every 50 minutes • 1 night line (No. 242) – running every hour from 00:00 amto 4:00 am Airport Lawica City centre

  8. Municipal transport, continued Transport from the airport to larger events organised in Poznan is ensured with special bus lines of the Municipal Transport Company. Examples: • During sports competitions, participants are transported to hotels by special buses • In case of the World Climate Conference, a special “H” line operates within the route between Lawica and thecity centre • A similar initiative is planned for EURO2012 Airport Lawica

  9. Indirect support The City supports Poznan-Lawica Airport also in an indirect way byorganising large, internationalsports and cultural events and fairs. Examples: • Poznan International Fair: • The 3rd largest trade fair inCentral and Eastern Europe • Over 60 trade fairs, 300,000 visitors and 15,000 exhibitors each year • The World Climate Conference - COP14 • Malta Theatre Festival • European Championship in Basketball - EuroBasket 2009 • 2012 UEFA European Football Championship

  10. Indirect support, continued The City attracts both production and service foreign investments. Such ventures increase flight demand. In some cases, even special flights for staff of one company are launched – e.g. the flight to Braunschweig for Volkswagen Companies present in Poznan include:
