  1. If your perception of God is wrong your life will be wrong

  2. If your perception of God is wrong your life will be wrong • Until you know Him, as He is, you'll never become all that He's created you to be

  3. 1 John 3:2 (NIV) • 2 Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is.

  4. 2 Corinthians 3:18 (NIV) • 18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

  5. How you view God shapes your life!

  6. Is your God too small?

  7. God is not like us!

  8. Isaiah 40:25-28 (NIV) • 25 “To whom will you compare Me?    Or who is My equal?” says the Holy One.26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens:    Who created all these?

  9. He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name.Because of His great power and mighty strength, not one of them is missing.

  10. 27 Why do you complain, Jacob?    Why do you say, Israel,“My way is hidden from the Lord; my cause is disregarded by my God”?

  11. 28 Do you not know?    Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God,    the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary,    and His understanding no one can fathom.

  12. God is not like us! • Left to ourselves, we tend to reduce God to manageable terms

  13. Romans 1:21-23 • 21 For although they knew God, • they neither glorified Him as God nor gave thanks to Him, • but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.

  14. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like a mortal human being and birds and animals and reptiles.

  15. Exodus 32:1-6 (NIV) • 1 When the people saw that Moses was so long in coming down from the mountain, they gathered around Aaron and said, “Come, make us gods who will go before us.

  16. As for this fellow Moses who brought us up out of Egypt, we don’t know what has happened to him.”

  17. 2 Aaron answered them, “Take off the gold earrings that your wives, your sons and your daughters are wearing, and bring them to me.”  3 So all the people took off their earrings and brought them to Aaron.

  18. 4 He took what they handed him and made it into an idol cast in the shape of a calf, fashioning it with a tool. Then they said, “These are your gods, Israel, who brought you up out of Egypt.”

  19. 5 When Aaron saw this, he built an altar in front of the calf and announced, “Tomorrow there will be a festival to the Lord.”

  20. 6 So the next day the people rose early and sacrificed burnt offerings and presented fellowship offerings. Afterward they sat down to eat and drink and got up to indulge in revelry.

  21. God is not like us! • Left to ourselves, we tend to reduce God to manageable terms • God can only be known as He reveals Himself to us

  22. Three ways God reveals Himself to us: • Through nature

  23. Psalm 19:1-4 (NIV) • 1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. • 2 Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they reveal knowledge.

  24. 3 They have no speech, they use no words; no sound is heard from them. • 4 Yet their voice goes out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.

  25. Romans 1:19-20 (NIV) • 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.

  26. 20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities— His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse

  27. Three ways God reveals Himself to us: • Through nature • Through his Word

  28. John 5:37-40 (NIV) • 37 And the Father who sent me has Himself testified concerning Me. You have never heard His voice nor seen Him form,

  29. 38 nor does His word dwell in you, for you do not believe the one He sent. 39 You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life.

  30. These are the very Scriptures that testify about me, 40 yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

  31. Three ways God reveals Himself to us: • Through nature • Through his Word • Through Jesus, His Son

  32. John 1:1-4 (NIV) • 1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning.

  33. 3 Through Him all things were made; without Him nothing was made that has been made. 4 In Him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

  34. John 1:14-18 (NIV) • 14 The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

  35. 15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because He was before me.’”)

  36. 16 Out of His fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given. 17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.

  37. 18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known.

  38. Seek Him

  39. Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NIV) • 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

  40. 12 Then you will call on Me and come and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. 13 You will seek Me and find Me when you seek Me with all your heart.

  41. Luke 11:9-11 (NIV) • 9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

  42. 10 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

  43. Jeremiah 33:3 (NIV) • ‘Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.’

  44. How to seek God: • Proverbs 2:1-5 (NIV)

  45. 1 My son, if you accept My words • and store up My commands within you, • 1: intake of God's word, read your Bible

  46. 2 turning your ear to wisdom • and applying your heart to understanding— • 2: Attitude, be teachable

  47. 3 indeed, if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, • 3: Passionate Prayer

  48. 4 and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, • 4: Priority, intentionality

  49. = • 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God.

  50. John 17:3 (NIV) • 3 Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent
