  6. Shoton Festival Shoton is one of the most famous and renowned Tibetan traditional festival in Tibet. Shoton literally mean Yogurt in Tibetan Language. The festival is dates back in 16th century and it’s a monastic ritual then. Dozens of monks are on retreat for numbers of days and monks are prohibited from killing and going out. Local people would donate yogurt to the monks after the completion of fast. 5th Dalai Lama has introduced Tibetan Opera performance to the Shoton festival and Norbulingka is as the official venue of the annual festival. Shoton is holding on last day of the sixth month in Tibetan Calendar and lasts for a few days. Consciousjourneys.org

  7. Shoton Festival One of another prominent event during Shoton is Thankga exhibitions at Drepung and Sera monastery. Thousands of people will queue up early morning to have audience with the sacred Thangka exhibition. Shoton is showcase of typical Tibetan tradition to the global tourists and explorers.
