  1. Geometry By: Maurice Partner Teacher: Mrs. Minchew

  2. Lines • A line is a collection of points along a straight path that goes on and on in opposite directions. A line has no endpoints.

  3. Angles • Two angles whose measure in degrees adds up to 180 degrees are supplementary angles. An angle of 180 degrees is a straight angle and looks exactly like a line. In the picture, A and B are supplementary to one another.

  4. Polygons • A polygon is a closed figure with many sides. The lines of a polygon do not intersect.

  5. Parallelograms • A parallelogram has four sides and each pair is parallel.

  6. Parallelograms A parallelogram is a quadrilateral that has two pairs of opposite sides that are parallel and equal to one another. It differs from a rectangle in that its angles are not right angles. A rhombus is an equilateral parallelogram, with all sides equal. • .

  7. Triangles • A triangle is a polygon with three sides.

  8. Right Triangles • This triangle is a right triangle. It has one right angle. A right angle has a measurement of 90 degrees.

  9. Congruence • Congruent means that two figures will line up exactly if you put one on top of the other. They are identical in size and shape.

  10. Circumference • Circumference is the distance around an object.

  11. Area • Area is the amount of space inside a figure. To find area, you multiply two numbers together.

  12. Area of a Parallelogram • To find area of parallelogram, you multiply base times height.

  13. Area of a Triangle • To find the area of a triangle, multiply the base by the height, and then divide by 2.

  14. Area of a Circle • The area of a circle can be found by multiplying pi ¶ (which is equal to 3.14) by the square of the radius.

  15. How many sides does a parallelogram have?

  16. Do the lines of a polygon intersect?

  17. What does a line NOT have?

  18. Find the area of a parallelogram with a base of 12 centimeters and a height of 5 centimeters.

  19. The radius of a circle is 3 inches. What is the area?

  20. Find the area of a rectangle with these measurements: • Length = 12 • Width = 5
