  2. Elvis • Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Mississippi in 1935. He was an only child because his twin brother died at birth. He later moved to Memphis Tennessee. • Elvis liked pop and country music. He also liked to sing gospel(church) music. • He began his signing career in 1954, by 1956 he was a international sensation. He had a unique sound and style when he sang and performed on stage. He became known as the “King of Rock and Roll”.

Elvis • Elvis sold over 1 billion records; more than any other artist. • Elvis had over 150 different music albums and single songs that are certified gold, platinum or multiplatinum. • Elvis had 149 songs that appeared on billboards Hot 100 pop chart. Of these, 114 were in the top 40, 40 were in the top 10 and 18 went to number 1.

  4. Elvis • Elvis won the Grammy Lifetime Achievement award at age 36. • Elvis starred in 33 films and made history with his television appearances.

  5. Elvis • United States Junior Chamber of Commerence named Elvis as one of the ten most outstanding men of the Nation of 1970. • In 1992 the US Postal Service made a postage stamp of Elvis.

  6. Elvis • Elvis died in 1977, he was 42 years old. He died at his Memphis home which was called Graceland…a now famous visiting spot for tourists.
