Who introduced Ginny to PBL? *Building on his children’s strengths, interests, and passions, Ginny’s father provided a horse farm and a movie camera to teach his children real world skills using Project Based Learning, immersing them in complex, real-world problems. *Ginny’s father was a “guide on the side, not a sage on the stage.” *Records were kept on film to be used in presentations and were later digitalized.

What has been the role of PBL in Ginny’s life? *Linked with community resources Ginny had to order hay and oats, set up timelines for delivery, schedule and teach horseback riding lessons, arrange for vet care, and prepare presentations. *Essential skills were developed as Ginny confronted and analyzed problems, brainstormed and researched solutions, and took the lead on making critical decisions. *This PBL culminated in exhibitions and presentations to authentic audiences at horse shows in communities across the United States.

  8. What has been the role of PBL in Ginny’s guidance classroom? *Interactive Multimedia Projects on the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens are built by students. These projects are used to teach others how to be more effective in life. *Essential skills were developed by the students as they synthesized and evaluated research on the 7 Habits, made real world connections, brainstormed essential questions, created timelines, designed and built their presentations, problem solved, peer edited, and revised their work. *This PBL culminated in presentations to other students in the school, community members, and on Youtube.
