  3. Why do you run? • What keeps you motivated to run? • How do you overcome the challenges of the run?

  4. Health • Physical • Mental • Emotional • Nutritional

  5. Physical • Strength – train like an athlete • Mobility – distance running limits ROM • Proper movement patterns – bad running causes injury, not just running (Stanford, 2008) • Cardiovascular – Dave McGillivray

  7. Mental • Strong will – push through tough spots • Mental resolve - commit • Constantly reassess goals/life • Attitude – Dr. George Sheehan • Sleep – duh!

Emotional • Variety • Play – “absorbing, apparently purposeless activity that provides enjoyment and a suspension of self-consciousness and sense of time.” • State of mind • Exerciser, competitor, enthusiast, socializer • It's a “PLAY” • Family involvement – a MUST • Balance – career should take 100% of performance, not life
