  1. PTE Speaking Mark Distribution | Everything You Must Know

  2. Before taking the PTE exam, You need to look at the PTE speaking mark distribution. Every student prepares hard to score 80+ in the PTE exam. Though they prepare hard, they also need to understand the mark distribution.  • This will help you understand which category questions hold high marks and which category holds low marks. With this, you can concentrate on a particular category to score good marks. • Moreover, PTE is a computer-based exam. The results will be published within 4 to 5 days from the examination date. The automated system will verify all your marks.  • The PTE exam’s mark distribution differs slightly from other English proficiency tests like TOEFL and IELTS. In IELTS, if the points are fixed to one section, the marks are given to that section only.  • But in the PTE exam, the points will be shared between other sessions. You need to understand the mark distribution before taking the PTE exam. Let us discuss PTE speaking mark distribution in detail.

  3. PTE Speaking Mark Distribution  • To understand how the marks are distributed in the PTE exam, you must understand the types of marks in the PTE exam.  • So let’s look at the type of marks a student gets in the PTE exam.  • There are two types of marks in the PTE exam: • Partial marks • Partial marks are based on pronunciation, fluency, spelling, grammar, etc. For example, In a speaking session, let’s consider the mark on a scale of 0-5. If you perform well in the speaking session, you will get a maximum score of 5.  • If you have made some grammar mistakes, but your fluency is too good, you will get partial marks for fluency and other good criteria.

  4. Negative Marks • Besides the speaking session, the reading and listening sessions have MCQ-type questions. If you answered a question wrongly, it would be marked as -1 as a negative mark.  • You will get a fixed score on the question if your answer is correct. For example, if the answer is X, Y, and your answer is X, Y, and Z, you will get 1 mark for each correct answer and -1 for the wrong answer. It means the correct answer is X, Y, so you will get 2 marks; if Z is wrong, you will get -1 as a negative mark. Finally, 2-1=1 is the final mark for that question.  • Similarly, if the answer is X and Y and you selected P and Q, you won’t get -2 as a negative mark. Instead of that, you will get zero marks because the minimum mark of the question is zero.

  6. PTE Personal Introduction • PTE self-introduction is the first question where you must introduce yourself to the institution. You have 30 seconds to record yourself.  • This question does not include marks, but it is most important because it describes you, and this part is also sent to the institution. • Read Aloud • PTE read-aloud session holds 22.2 marks in the speaking part. You will have 30-40 seconds to read and record your task. • PTE will help you identify punctuation, where you would pause, and where you would speak fluently. It is necessary that the students have to stress the important words or read more fluently on the microphone.  • This can give them higher marks. Students can score good marks by speaking confidently in this question type. A partial score is given to your fluency though you made some grammatical errors.

  7. Repeat Sentence • In a repeat sentence, you will hear an audio clip and repeat it to the microphone. This question type holds around 32 points, the highest score compared to other questions.  • The repeat sentence requires you to stress the important words and give meaning to the sentence.  • Points will only be given when there is a response from the students or relevant answers. The partial score is applicable based on their performance in speaking.

  8. Describe Image • In Describe image question, students have to describe the data present in the picture. This question holds around 22 marks in the PTE speaking module.  • You have 25 seconds of preparation. Once the preparation time gets over, you will hear a beep sound. Then you have to record yourself.  • It is advised that students need to describe only some of the data present in the picture. They can describe whatever they know well. The partial score will be given based on their regional and national type of pronunciation and oral fluency.

  9. Retell Lecture • The retelling lecture holds marks in the PTE speaking module. In this session, you will get an audio clip followed by an image.  • You have 10 seconds for preparation then you will hear a beep sound. students need to listen to the audio clip and the image and find the relevant image which played in the audio clip.  • This will help them to find a topic. The partial score will be based on content, oral fluency, and pronunciation.

  10. Answer The Short Question • The PTE retell lecture includes an answer short question session in which you must focus on the question and the image.  • Once the audio stops, the microphone will be turned on, and you must record yourself. It is recommended that the student waits at most 3 seconds in the middle of the recording.  • Because the recording would stop if you hold for more than 3 seconds. Make sure to record the answers within 10 seconds.  • The questions would be day-to-day life questions or would be simple questions. The PTE (Pearson Test of English) score for this session is based on their presence of mind, how relevant the answer is, and how well they are briefly explained. You can attain partial scores by giving accurate and brief answers.
