  8. Dr. Simoniello Activities • Project team member for the EPA/GCOOS-funded Coastal America Learning Center exhibits • Working with FL AQ to develop the GCOOS/EPA Water Quality exhibit. Have engaged What About Blue founder Kevin Lily and will be incorporating video from his 2009 water quality awareness campaign (a team of three paddled the length of the MS River and conducted E/O along the way). • Co-Hosted GCOOS/GOMA/What About Blue Water Quality Awareness cocktail party and golf tournament (funds to WAB to purchase equipment to install wells in Africa and South America); 400 plus people at the cocktail party; 100 people at the golf tournament) (Jan 30-Feb 1, 2010) • BWET grant for Scubanauts/GCOOS E/O/GOMA EIA in review • Wrapped up ESSEA course; lesson plan development-marshes and nutrient mitigation • GCOOC Modeling workshop at USGS • GOMA PR Face to Face meeting-direct link to Alliance Management Team (AMT) (Oct 2009) • Making sure GCOOS is recognized and written into plans, communication products, etc. • MTS/IEEE Oceans 09-Talk in IOOS & OOI Session (Oct 2009) • Developed hands-on activity (game) “Brilliant or Boondoggle’ Managing our Ecosystems; tested with 400 kids at the November 2009 USGS Open House.

Dr. Simoniello Activities • Presented at the GoM Large Marine Ecosystem Meeting, Mexico City with Ann J (December 2009) • Planning committee that organized a webinar series: Exhibit Design for IOOS, hosted by COSEE NOW, to learn how develop exhibits focused on climate change (Dec 09-Jan 2010). Led to a NFRA EOC-wide proposal that I am spearheading to seek NOAA Office of Education funds. • Florida Regional Ocean’s Conference for Students, invited science panel member (12/09) • Met with Robert Dixon, Dauphin Island Sea Lab to refine “Ray in the Bay” logo for GCOOS E/O. (Draft design should be available before the BOD meeting) • E/O webpages launched • GCOOS EOC offered assistance to Bill Burnett (NDBC) to aid with negative user feedback issues with their new interface. • MTS article C. Simoniello, P. Tissot, D. McKee, J. Adams, R. Ball, and R. Butler-Reducing Gamefish Mortalities During Cold Air Outbreaks: Science meets Society (a success story for the GCOOS RA-highlighting a collaboration with academics, conservationists and industry). In review. • GCOOS E/O draft brochure targeting Public Health; requires review by Andy, Barb, others
