  1. UNISIM OPEN HOUSE FREE TALKHow "Common-sense" is Patient Safety? An exploration of the importance of Human FactorsDate: 28th February Time: 2pm – 3 pmVenue: SIM University LT 2.19Patient safety is undoubtedly one of the highest priorities in the medical industry. However, injuries and death due to medical errors occur unacceptably often, even though almost all of these can be prevented. While the error is usually man-made, the fault may not always lie with the person but instead in the inherent design of the job task or systematic procedure. The field of human factors looks into the various issues of task performance and human error in a bid to understand and improve the system, thereby increasing patient safety. Solutions do oftentimes appear plain and ordinary - so simple that some people may not treat human factors seriously. This talk will present some concepts, case studies, and challenges that human factor advocates face in improving patient safety. • This seminar is followed by a briefing to the Human Factors and Systems Bachelor Programme at UniSIM, presented by Head of Programme, Dr Chui Yoon Ping.  The briefing will include: • Definition of Human Factors • Aims of Programme • Components and Structure of HFS Programme • Brief introduction to Courses • Eligibility • Financial issues • Job Prospects of HFS Graduates
