Celebrated with merriment and generosity on the 25th of December, this joyous occasion is all about enjoying the good times with those close to us. Unfortunately, underprivileged children in India do not get to experience these privileges due to a lack of resources and poor health. UNICEF 2019 shows that malnourishment leads to 69% of deaths amongst children below the age of 5 years in India. It is time this scenario changes as all children deserve to have happier and healthier childhoods. Children

  2. must have access to timely immunizations, adequate nutrition, and other healthcare facilities to have a safer and more wholesome future. These essential components contribute to a child’s physical, mental and cognitive development. If proper nutrition is not given to a child during the impressionable years, they may face long-term, or even irreversible, damage to their health. It is important to ensure that no child suffers from malnutrition or poor health, irrespective of their socio-economic background. After all, malnourishment can be quite harmful and that is why a preventative and responsive approach can help make a difference to India’s infant mortality rate (IMR), child mortality rate (CMR) and maternal mortality rate (MMR). As per the National Family Health Survey (NFHS) 2015–16, 59% of children under 5 years of age are anaemic while 36% of the children under 5 years of age are underweight. To help improve this situation, CRY, India’s most trusted NGO, is working tirelessly to ensure there is access to proper nutrition and quality healthcare. CRY also addresses the issue of poverty in India by helping the parents of newborns in many regional belts have the opportunity to access medical care, awareness sessions, and follow-up healthcare services to take care of newborns and even pregnant mothers. CRY has impacted over 2,176 children in CRY project areas, under the age of 5 years, who are now free from malnutrition. This Christmas, make a generous donation to CRY and help improve malnutrition in India. You can give the gift of health to children hailing from marginalized communities.
