National Girl Child Day, commemorated on 24th January, is an important occasion. It helps spread awareness of the need to protect young girls and provide them with essential resources. Integral aid shall help them lead a dignified life, one full of opportunities to grow and learn.  National Girl Child Day is also important because gender disparity is a harsh reality in Indian society. Due to a variety of factors, such as financial hardships, distance to school, a lack of convenient and safe transportation options, child marriage in India, child labour, household chores, and even sibling care, underprivileged girls are often not enrolled in school or are asked to discontinue their education. This misstep can change the course of their lives.  About Author 38% of young girls in India, between the ages of 15 and 18, are not enrolled in school, according to data from the RGI Census 2016 and the UDISE survey 2016– 17. The girl child is held back despite having so much promise. In terms of safety and protection, regular schooling, proper healthcare, and adequate nourishment, the girl child in India is still not afforded equal opportunity.  According to the McKinsey Gender Parity Study 2018, India's GDP may increase by $770 billion by 2025 if all girls finish their education and enter the workforce. But the truth is very different from this encouraging statistic. This is why it is all the more important to raise awareness to safeguard girls from abuse, assault, and exploitation while also ensuring that teenage girls meet their nutritional and hygienic needs. Supporting young girls will help them escape the vicious cycle of poverty. To offer India's daughters a chance for a better future, we must invest in them.  CRY- Child Rights and You Member since Jul 18, 2018 Location: Delhi This National Girl Child Day, join hands with CRY to help build a world for our girls where they have endless opportunities to strive for excellence and achieve their dreams.
