It is important that children have access to basic resources like proper education, safety and protection, healthcare support etc. This helps ensure children evolve into promising individuals who can contribute to the development of their nation and help make a difference. Unfortunately, such is not the case with children from marginalized communities who go through many hardships and depravity due to poverty in India. 2. Read on to know how the quality of life of children is getting compromised due to the deep-rooted effects of poverty: Malnutrition? 1. Education, in particular, helps build the personalities of children and nurture their emotional capabilities. According to DISE 2016-17, there are 1.54 million schools in India, and the total number of children enrolled in schools is 251.3 million. It is time we ensure literacy is available to children across the length and breadth of India so that children’s social skills, emotional quotient, and capabilities are further developed through cognitive learning. Many communities are unable to send their children to school due to socioeconomic shortcomings but this shouldn’t come in the way of children attending school and completing their education. 2. Poverty is one of the main reasons behind the deteriorating health of millions of underprivileged children in India. From anaemic pregnant mothers to undernourished children, poverty considerably decreases the chances of marginalized families having access to healthcare facilities. NFHS 4 2016 shows that every 3rd child under 5 years of age in India is severely malnourished. What makes matters worse is that lack of awareness further holds children back from receiving timely immunizations which worsens their health in the long run. Essential nutrients are also of utmost importance for children during their formative years but lack of healthcare support stunts their growth in many cases. Each year, several children succumb to preventable diseases in India. With lack of basic amenities, first aid and immediate help, people have nowhere to go. In the current ecosystem, it is very critical to address to the issue. Children’s Day with CRY CRY, India’s most trusted NGO, has been working for children for over 43 years. CRY has dedicated varied programs toward the welfare of children and their families, including regular awareness sessions, interaction with community heads and other respective stakeholders, extending integral resources etc to help uplift and empower them. Donate to NGO CRY now to protect underprivileged children from the shackles of poverty!
