Storage • Energise Barnsley • 2 year solar and storage project with Barnsley Council, Northern Powergrid and Moixa • Smart batteries, thermal stores and ASHP • Demand side response demonstrator • Peer to peer trading pilot • 7MWh standalone battery on council land • Focus fuel poor vulnerable, to maximise the social economic benefits from new innovations • Follows on from ‘Barnsley Solar’

Heat • Springbok Sustainable Wood Heat Co-op • 400kW wood chip district heating system • 100% community owned • Switched 3 large old oil boilers operating at less than 70% efficiency and 2 smaller oil boilers • Produces wood chip from poor quality wood and the tops of trees from the immediate area • Main customer is ‘Care Ashore’ supported housing charity • Retrofitted energy saving measures • Working to maximise the woodland’s potential for butterfly habitat

Bringing private assets into community ownership • Mean Moor Wind Farm • 3 turbine 6.9MW • Acquired by 3 co-operatives with support of E4A, Thrive Renewables and Triodos • 2,500 members • £2.8m and £1.2m offers raised in 2 weeks and oversubscribed • Operated with adjacent High Winds – combined capacity of 11.5MW
