  1. Tafseer of Sura Saba - Session SevenVerses 31 – 39Questions for Tadabbur What type of conversations will take place on the day of Judgment? Do you know any other verses of Qur’an that mention such conversations? 2. What will be the causes of intense regret on the Day of Judgment? Why do those who have been given wealth and children think they will not be punished? 4. What are the reasons for increase and decrease of Rizq?

  2. Points to Ponder - we will never believe. Shows stubbornness and resistance to truth - back and forth arguments - the weak ones and the strong ones - blaming others - concealing regret - a station close to God

  3. Arguments on the Day of Judgment Argument with God And they will say, ‘Our Lord! We obeyed our leaders and elders, and they led us astray from the way. Our Lord! Give them a double punishment, and curse them with a mighty curse. (33:67-68) They shall cry therein for help; ‘Our Lord! bring us out, so that we may act righteously – different from what we used to do!’ ‘Did We not give you a life long enough that one who is heedful might take admonition? And [moreover] the Warner had [also] come to you. Now taste [the consequences of your deeds], for the wrong doers have no helper. (35:37)

  4. Argument with Shaytan And the Shaytan shall say after the affair is decided; Surely Allah promised you the promise of truth, and I gave you promises then failed to keep them to you, and I had no authority over you except that I called you and you obeyed me, therefore do not blame me but blame yourselves, I cannot be your helper now nor can you be my helpers; surely I disbelieve in you associating me with Allah before, surely it is the unjust who will have the painful punishment. Sura Ibrahim, verse 22

  5. Other Conversations on the Day of Judgment The inmates of the Fire will call out to the inhabitants of Paradise, ‘pour on us some water, or something of what Allah has provided you’ They will say, “Indeed Allah has forbidden these two to the faithless.’ (7:50) Every soul is hostage to what it has earned, Except the people of the Right Hand, [They will be in gardens] questioning concerning the guilty, What drew you into Hell? They will answer, we were not from among those who prayed Nor did we feed the poor. We used to gossip along with the gossipers, and we used to deny the day of Retribution until death came to us. (74: 38-47)

  6. Regret on the Day of Judgment Visible Signs 1) Were you to see the when the guilty hang their heads before their Lord [confessing], ‘Our Lord! We have seen and heard. Send us back so that we may act righteously. Indeed we are [now] convinced.’ (32:12) 2) You will see them exposed to it, humbled by abasement, looking at it secretly. (42:45) 3) A Day when the wrongdoer will bite his hands, saying: ‘I wish I had followed the Messenger’s way. Woe be to me. not taken so and so for a friend.’ (25:27-28)

  7. Allah will take them out from the corners of the graves, the nests of birds, the den of beasts, and the centers of death. They hasten towards His command and run towards the place fixed for their final return, group by group, quiet, standing, and arrayed in rows. They will be within Allah’s sight and will hear everyone who will call them. They will be wearing the dress of helplessness and covering of submission and indignity. [At this time] arguments will disappear, desires will be cut, hearts will sink quietly, voices will be curbed, sweat will choke the throat, fear will increase, and the ears will resound with the thundering voice of the announcer calling towards the final judgment. Khutba al-Gharra, #83, Nahjul Balagha

  8. Wealth and Children Know that the life of this world is just play and diversion, and glitter, and boasting among yourselves, and competing in increase of wealth and children – like the rain whose vegetation impresses the farmer; then it withers and you see it turn yellow, then it becomes chaff, while in the hereafter there is severe punishment and [also] forgiveness from Allah, and His pleasure; and the life of this world is nothing but the means of delusion. (57:20)

  9. Sustenance He ordained livelihood with plenty and with scarcity. He distributed them narrowly as well as profusely. He did it with justice to test whomever He desired, with prosperity or with destitution, and to test through it the gratefulness or endurance of the rich and the poor. Then He coupled plenty with misfortunes of destitution, safety with distresses of calamities, and pleasures of enjoyment with pangs of grief. Khutba #91, Nahjul Balagha
