  3. Partner Share • What kinds of things might people sacrifice for others? • Can you think of a time when you gave something up for someone else?

  4. Let’s Talk About • Turn to page 258-259 • What are the people in the middle photo doing? • They donated their time because they are committed to helping others. • Why would people be giving boxes to others?

  5. Let’s Talk About • How is the soldier making a sacrifice? • He might suffer consequences, such as becoming injured. • Why do people make sacrifices for others?

  6. Listen: Christie’s Sacrifice is about someone who makes sacrifices for a friend. Listen for: -committed -consequences -donated -underprivileged

  7. Amazing Words • Committed- dedicated to a task • We are committed to the Pirates football team. • Consequence- the result of something • The consequence of Ned’s fall was a broken leg.

  8. Amazing Words • Donated- means to give money or help • Many people donate money or time to charity to help. • Underprivileged- people who are underprivileged have fewer advantages than most people have. • Many charities use their resources to help underprivileged

  9. Author’s Purpose • To persuade • To inform • To entertain • Or to express feelings

  10. Vocabulary • Bandana- a handkerchief, usually with a pattern on it • Bracelet- jewelry worn on the wrist • Teach your partner these words.

  15. Main and helping verbs A helping verb helps a main verb. The helping verb comes before the main verb.

  18. Personal Narrative • Personal narratives are written using first-person point of view • Uses words like I, me, my, mine, we, and our • Personal narratives are made more personal when writers share their thoughts and feelings about the experience they are describing.
