  2. Key ideas • Pollutant – something that doesn’t belong and causes harm • Source – place where pollution is created • Effect – what the pollutant does; the harm it causes

  3. Two types of sources • point sources – specific location that can be identified • nonpoint sources – spread out, may not be easy to identify. • For each of the following examples, POINT if it’s a POINT source!

  4. Coal-fired power plant

  5. Clear cut logging operation

  6. Agricultural fields: Point or non point?

  7. Outfall from sewage treatment plant

  8. CAFO/Feedlot: Point or non point?

  9. City streets

  10. Active or abandoned mine
