  1. Welcome to Social Studies Class! With Mrs. CalaRm 310

  2. What does the word Social Studies mean? • various aspects or branches of the study of human society, considered as an educational discipline.

  3. What does the word History mean? • the study of past events, particularly in human affairs. Or • the whole series of past events connected with someone or something.

  4. What do you think you are going to learn about this year?History? or Social Studies?

  5. What’s the point? • You have your first grade of the year!

  6. Why do people end up in textbooks?

  7. How does someone decide what goes in a textbook?

  8. We’re going to write a textbook!

  9. Textbook Page Assignment • You will be making a page in a textbook • Choose an event that happened to you over the summer • It can be something you were scared of • It can be something you never did before • It can be something you were really excited/proud about

Requirements: • There must be proof of the event • Pictures, tickets ,agendas • There must be at least one witness to the event • There must be a paragraph write up about the event • Items to include in write up • The date and location of the event. • What kind of event was it? • How long did the event last? • A description of the event. • People in attendance at the event (your witnesses). • The outcome of the event.

Requirements: • The complete textbook page must fit on a regular piece of paper( 8 ½ x 11) • It can be on white or colored paper • You can use any resources you’d like • Crayons, markers, pencils, glitter, printer, computer, scanner, etc • The completed textbook page should look something like this… • The textbook page assignment is due on Friday September 12th Any Questions?
