MAST – A brief introduction • Samantha Tough – Reinwood Junior School • Irene Ward – Almondbury Junior School • Amanda Denney – Moorlands Primary School • Catherine Green – Lindley Junior School Williams report (2008) ‘There should be at least one maths specialist in each primary school, in post within ten years, with deep mathematical subject at pedagogical knowledge, making appropriate arrangements for small and rural schools’.

  3. NCETM – Mathematics Knowledge Network As a group we have formed a Mathematics Knowledge Network (MKN) and applied for funding from the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM). Our focus was to develop practical maths.

  4. Aims and Objectives • To promote and develop practical maths within our schools. • To lessen the reliance on text book teaching. • To increase pupils engagement with and enjoyment of mathematics. • To increase staff confidence in planning and delivering practical maths lessons.
