  1. Comparison of Proposed MMIRE Elements

  2. Introduction • Comparison of the current proposed MMIRE elements with: • 23 State databases • HSIS States • States databases obtained through other FHWA efforts • Other inventories/databases • HPMS, MMUCC, SafetyAnalyst, IHSDM, and HSM • Excerpts from comparison spreadsheets (handouts)

  3. Comparison with States • MMIRE Total: 180 elements • 54 elements not maintained by States • Roadway Segment Descriptors: 99 elements • 22 elements not maintained by States • Roadway Alignment Descriptors: 13 elements • 2 elements not maintained by States • Roadway Junction Descriptors: 68 elements • 30 elements not maintained by States

  4. Comparison with States:Roadway Segment Descriptors • Includes location, lane, shoulder, median, and traffic descriptors • States collect majority of location elements • States are not collecting some median descriptor elements • States collect majority of traffic flow data

  5. Comparison with States:Roadway Alignment Descriptors • Includes horizontal curve and vertical grade descriptors • States are collecting majority of elements • Out of 8 horizontal alignment elements, States are not collecting 2 elements • 101. Curve Feature Type • 105. Horizontal Transition/Spiral Curve Presence • All 5 Vertical Grade elements are maintained by all of the States

  6. Comparison with States:Roadway Junction Descriptors • Includes at-grade intersection and interchange and ramp descriptors • Many of the At-grade Intersection/ Junction elements are not collected • General Descriptors: States not collecting 9 out of 20 elements • At Grade Intersection/Junction Descriptors broken down by approach: States not collecting 17 out of 29 elements • All 6 of the General Interchange Descriptors are maintained by all of the States

  7. Comparison with Databases • MMIRE Total: 180 elements • 56 elements not contained in databases • Roadway Segment Descriptors: 99 elements • 23 elements not contained in databases • Roadway Alignment Descriptors: 13 elements • 1 element not contained in databases • Roadway Junction Descriptors: 68 elements • 32 elements not contained in databases

  8. Comparison with Databases:Roadway Segment Descriptors • The majority of these elements are included in the other databases • Databases contain majority of location elements • Databases do not contain some median descriptor elements • Databases contain majority of traffic flow data and traffic operations/control data

  9. Comparison with Databases:Roadway Alignment Descriptors • Databases include majority of elements • Out of 8 horizontal alignment elements, only 1 is not contained in any of the databases • 101. Curve Feature Type • All 5 Vertical Grade elements are contained in the databases

  10. Comparison with Databases:Roadway Junction Descriptors • Databases contain majority of General Descriptors • At Grade Intersection/Junction Descriptors broken down by approach: Databases do not contain 15 out of 29 elements • General Interchange Descriptors: Databases do not contain any of the 6 elements
