Objective of the National Food Security Mission (NFSM) • National Food Security Mission (NFSM) is a centrally sponsored scheme with an objective to increase production and productivity of wheat, rice and pulses on a sustainable basis so as to ensure food security of the country. • The approach is to bridge the yield gap in respect of these crops through improved technologies and farm management practices & to increase production of rice, wheat and pulses through area expansion, crop protection and productivity enhancement in a sustainable manner in the identified districts.

Company Profile of HIL • HINDUSTAN INSECTICIDES LIMITED (HIL) is a Government of India Enterprise under the Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers. • HIL was incorporated in March, 1954 to meet the requirements of insecticides for National Malaria Eradication Programme launched by the Government of India. • Presently HIL has three units located at Udyagamondal, Cochin (1958), Rasayani, Maharashtra (1997) and Bathinda, Punjab (2003)

PADDY CULTIVATION SCENARIO IN INDIA • Cultivable Land Area (Approx):- 48 Million Hectare. • Annual paddy Production:- 90 Million Tons. • Major insect pests & diseases:- Stemborer, Gallmidge, Hispa, Leaf Folder, BPH, Blast, Sheath blight, Various types of weeds. • Major use of Pesticides:-Insecticides- Endosulfan, CPP, MCP, Malathion, Acephate, CartapHCL SP, Profenophos, Quinalphos, DDVP, Imidacloprid, CPP+Cyper. Fungicides- Tricyclazole, Hexaconazole, Carbendazim, Thiophenate methyl Carbendazim+Mancozeb, Weedicides- Butachlor, Pretilachlor.

Fungicides- Mancozeb, Carbendazim, Metalaxyl+Mancozeb,Thiophenate methyl. Weedicides- Sulfosulfuron, Clodinafop.

PULSE CULTIVATION SCENARIO IN INDIA • Cultivable Land Area (Approx):-24 Million Hectare. • Annual pulse Production:-13-15 Million Tons. • Major pulses in India:- a) Kharif- Red gram or Tur or Pigeon pea, Black gram or Urd, Green gram or Moong, b) Rabi- Bengal gram or Chick pea, Field pea or Motor, Lentil or Masoor. • Major Pests & Diseases:-Pod borer, Pod fly, Leaf Caterpillar, Termite, WF, Aphids & Jassids, Leaf Spot, Powdery Mildew, Blight, Wilt, YMV, Root rot,. • Major use of Pesticides:-Insecticides- Endosulfan, CPP, MCP, Malathion, Acephate,SP, Profenophos, Quinalphos, DDVP, Imidacloprid,Indoxacarb, Emamectin Benzoate, CPP+Cyper.
