  3. What is Forensic Science? • According to the Encyclopedia of Forensic Science, forensic science is the application of scientific knowledge and techniques to criminal investigations in order to obtain the evidence needed to solve crimes. Conklin, B. G., Gardner, R., & Shortelle, D. Encyclopedia of Forensic Science.

  4. Engineering Design Process • The steps of the engineering design process are to: • Define the Problem • Do Background Research • Specify Requirements • Create Alternative Solutions • Choose the Best Solution • Do Development Work • Build a Prototype • Test and Redesign The engineering design process. (2012). Retrieved from Science Buddies: http://www.sciencebuddies.org/engineering-design-process/engineering-design-process-steps.shtml

  5. Combining both Forensic science and Engineering • How did Sherlock do it?

  6. Combining Forensics with Engineering • Criminology students should take some engineering classes. • Forensic engineers try to answer three questions: • What happened? • Why did it happen? • How can it have been prevented? • Deals with mostly wrongful injury cases Bass Associates Inc. (2010). Forensic engineering. Retrieved from Bass Engineering: http://www.bassengineering.com/forensic.htm
