  1. Exceed Series Quilt Pattern Menu The Exceed Series of machines have built in stitch patterns to enhance your quilt designs. These patterns can be located in the Other Patterns| Quilt Pattern menu. Press the Other Patterns Key Use the arrow keys to move to the Quilt Pattern Menu. Press the OK key to select this menu.

  2. Exceed Series Quilt Pattern Menu Stitches The F-600 has 67 decorative stitches to enhance quilting applications. The F-400 has 29 stitches in this menu The F-300 has 22 stitches in this menu.

  3. Exceed Series Quilt Pattern Menu Stitches The default stitch is stitch pattern 01 – a blanket stitch.Please note that there are several blanket stitch patterns to select from. There is even a pattern on the Direct Select keypad on the #6 key.The patterns are different sizes, stitch differently or create heavierstitch effect than others. Default Pattern 01 Pattern 02 Pattern 03 Pattern 04For this exercise we will use the default Quilt Menu Pattern.

  4. Exceed Series Understanding Needle Position Settings Please locate the Manual Buttonhole Foot (I) - often known as the Special Satin Stitch Foot from your machine accessory package. Attach the foot to the snap-on presser foot shank. Look on the LCD screen at the presser foot icon. There is a bar and “+” on the screen in front ofthe presser foot icon. This indicates the needle position of the selectedstitch pattern. This pattern will stitch from the RIGHT needle position.

  5. Exceed Series Understanding Needle Position Settings If patterns marked to sew from the right needleposition are aligned with the center needle position on the presser foot, stitching will be placed to the right of center as shown here. If you wish to align the stitches with the edge of the strips of fabric from your kit, you would needto align the fabric with the line marked on the right side of this presser foot as shown here.

  6. Exceed Series Understanding Needle Position Settings Place one strip of fabric on the larger fabric square. Place the fabric pieces under the presser foot. Align the edge of the fabric strip with the line markedon the right side of the Manual Buttonhole (I) footas shown here. Lower the presser foot on the machine and sew one line of the stitching. The stitching should align with the edge of the strip as shown in the example above.

  7. Exceed Series Changing Needle Positions The Exceed Series machines have a feature that will allow you to move the needle position of the complete pattern without changing the width of the pattern. Press the Option button. Use the arrow keys to select the Change of Needle Position option. Press the OK key to activate this option. The Change of Needle Position menu will display on the LCD screen.

  8. Exceed Series Changing Needle Positions Use the arrow keys to move the needle position to the center position. When the Center position is highlighted press the OK key.Look at the LCD screen. The new needle positionwill display on the screen.

  9. Exceed Series Understanding Needle Position Settings Place one strip of fabric on the larger fabric square. Place the fabric pieces under the presser foot. Align the edge of the fabric strip with the center ofthe Manual Buttonhole (I) foot as shown here. Lower the presser foot on the machine and sew one line of the stitching. The stitching should align with the edge of the strip as shown in the example above.

  10. Exceed Series Blanket Stitch Appliqué Please take out your 4-patch block created earlier in the training. In your sewing kit you will find 3 small backed fabric squares. Please take those out now. Peel the backing from one of the squares and position the square in the center of one of the patches in the 4-patch block. Select stitch pattern 02 from the Quilt Pattern Menu. Change the Needle Stitch Position to the Center position. Look at the LCD screen to check that the needle position is marked for the center position.

  11. Exceed Series Blanket Stitch Appliqué Align the edge of the appliqué square with the center of the Manual Buttonhole Foot (I). Press the Needle Up/Down Position key so that we will be able to pivot easily at the corners. Look at the LCD screen, there is a new icon displaying on the screen indicating the needle stop position is down.Set the machine Speed Control Lever to a medium stitching speed. This will help you control stitching at the corners more easily.

  12. Exceed Series Blanket Stitch Appliqué Begin sewing the blanket stitch taking care that the left swing of the stitch catches the appliqué fabric. The straight portion if the stitching should fall just off the edge of the fabric. When you come to a corner, stop sewing. Press your right knee against the Knee Lift Lever to raise the presser foot. Pivot the fabric and begin sewing the second side of the appliqué. Repeat until all 4 sides of the appliqué have been sewn. Press the trim button on the front of the machine to trim upper thread and bobbin threads.

  13. Exceed Series Blind Stitch Appliqué The Exceed Quilt & Pro Special has two bind stitch patterns to choose from. F-300/400 models only have one option. Please press the 3 and 5 to select the firstblind appliqué pattern. Peel the backing from one of the squares and position the square in the center of one of the patches in the 4-patch block. Align the edge of the appliqué square with the center of the Manual Buttonhole Foot (I). Look at the LCD screen to verify the needle stop position is down.

  14. Exceed Series Blind Stitch Appliqué Align the fabric so that the left swing of the needle will fall into the appliqué fabric and the center straight stitching will fall just off the side of the appliqué fabric. Begin sewing at a medium speed. Stop and pivot at corners. Press the Reverse button to place lock stitches at the end of the stitching. Trim threads using the foot control option .The Blind Stitch Appliqué pattern is a pattern that quilter’s cherish.

  15. Exceed Series Satin Stitch Appliqué The Exceed Quilt & Pro Special has an quickDirect Select appliqué cover stitch. Please press the + Peel the backing from one of the squares and position the square in the center of one of the patches in the 4-patch block. Position the presser foot so that the right swingof the needle will fall just off the edge of theappliqué fabric. Manually turn the hand wheel if necessary to check alignment.

  16. Exceed Series Satin Stitch Appliqué Begin sewing at a medium speed and sew to the first corner. Press the Needle Up/Down Button and walk the stitching forward so that There are a couple of stitches placed justpast the corner of the appliqué. With the needle in the down position, press the knee lift lever to raise the presser foot slightly and pivot around the corner. Finish sewing the appliqué and then trim top and bottom threads.

  17. Exceed Series Tapering and Needle Position Settings At the beginning of this training we mentioned tapering. Because the Exceed Series machines have the ability to change sewing positions of the pattern, the machine has the ability to taper zigzag stitching to the left, right or center.

  18. Exceed Series Tapering and Needle Position Settings This is a feature that can greatly improve appliqué stitch appearance and be useful for decorative stitch techniques. The stem line and sharp pointson this leaf appliqué were created by tapering the satinstitching.

  19. Exceed Series Machine Stippling In the Satin Appliqué exercise, we changed from Other Patterns mode to Direct Select Mode.Let’s go back to Other Patterns Mode and select the Quilt Patterns. Press: + + + +The Blanket Stitch Pattern should be displayed on the LCD screen.

  20. Exceed Series Machine Stippling Press the keysto select the machine stippling stitch.Press the Automatic Lock/Trim Button. We are going to stitch from right to lefton the last patch of your 4-patch block. Align the fabric under the presser so thatright marked line of the Manual Buttonholepresser foot is aligned with the seam linebetween the blocks as shown here.

  21. Exceed Series Machine Stippling Begin sewing at a medium speed and sew one line of machine stippling. When you reach the end of the fabric, stop sewing and do not press any buttons or raise the presser foot. Ready – Press the Reverse key on the machine. The machine will place lock stitches and automatically trim the top and bobbin threads.

  22. Exceed Series Machine Stippling Second Row of stitching – Ready. Raise the presser foot and align the fabricso that the right marked line on the Manual Buttonhole foot (I) is lined up with the left edgeof the first line of machine stippling stitches. Begin sewing the second row of stitches. Continue sewing and when you reach the end of the fabric press the Reverse button on the machine. The machine will place lock stitches and automatically trim the top and bobbin threads.

  23. Exceed Series Hand Look Quilt Stitch Please thread the machine with the invisible thread in your kit. Locate 2 pieces of 5 x 7 inch pieces of cotton fabric and 1 piece of 5 x7 inch quilt batting in your kit. Layer the fabric and batting so that the batting is between the two cotton layers. Press the keys on the keypad to select the hand look quilt stitch.

  24. Exceed Series Hand Look Quilt Stitch Let’s look at changing some stitch and tension settings on the machine. Change the Stitch Length to 3.4 by turning the stitch length dial to the right. Locate the tension dial on the machine top. Change the setting from Automatic to -1 by turning the dial to the left.

  25. Exceed Series Hand Look Quilt Stitch Place the layered fabric and batting under the presser foot. Begin sewing at a slow to medium speed. After a few stitches check to see if the bobbin thread color is showing on the top of the fabric. If there is not enough bobbin thread showing lower the top thread tension to -2 or -3.Your sample should look similar to this: When you have finished sewing changethe upper thread tension back to AUTO.

  26. Exceed Series Decorative and Crazy Quilt Patterns In your kit is a simple crazy quilt block.Please locate that block. We are going to have fun with the Patterns for Crazy Quilts in the Quilt Pattern menu on the Exceed Quilt & Pro Special.

  27. Exceed Series Decorative and Crazy Quilt Patterns Please press 2 and 7 to select this Crazy Quilt Pattern. Thread machine with the rayon thread from your kit. Look at your LCD screen and the needle position. We have sewn stitches that sew in the Rightand Center needle positions. The Patterns for Crazy Quilt sew from the LEFT needle position. Look at the manual buttonhole foot. There is a notch on the left side of the foot.

  28. Exceed Series Decorative and Crazy Quilt Patterns Place the Crazy Quilt Block under the presser footso that one seam line is aligned with the left edgeof the notch as shown here. Begin sewing along the seam line taking care tokeep fabric aligned properly.Trim threads when finished sewing seam.
