  1. My Virtual Reflection David vela

  2. Age 5-11 As a child, my parents introduced me to a variety of organized sports through CYO, the Boys and Girls Club, and Pop Warner. These included football, basketball, soccer, track & field. In addition, as a family we would play tennis, golf, water skiing, horse shoes and many other recreational sports. As a family we were very sports oriented and active. My dad would serve as a coach for many of my teams. While my mother would usually be the team mom. By playing so many sports at a young age it really influenced me to become competitive and want to pursue sports in middle school and beyond.

  3. Age 12-14 In middle school I focused my interest on three major sports; football, basketball, and track & field. Football: I made A team, but since I didn’t have my growth spurt I had limited playing time. I had the opportunity to have more playing time by going down to B team. I took the opportunity and ran with it. It helped me further on in my football career Basketball: I was the starting point guard for our eighth grade team, which went on to win the district championship. Track & field: I really don’t really don’t remember much from track & field, but I have a lot of 1st place medals.

  4. Age 14-17 In high school I started to realize that coaching and teaching is something I might want to do for the rest of my life. There was a foreign exchange student from Germany who wanted to play football, and the coaches allowed me to teach him how to play. In the second game of the season he scored his very first touchdown. The excitement and expression on his face gave me a proud feeling. From that day on, I knew I wanted to become a coach. That was a life changing moment for me. It became clear that teaching and coaching is what I wanted to do in my future.

  5. Present • Texas A&M-Kingsville: After high school I went to play football for the Javalina’s. I was their for three semesters • Palo Alto Community College: After I left Kingsville I started at palo alto, where I got my associates. • UTSA: Is were I finished with my bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology. During my time at UTSA I had the opportunity to do observation hours, field work, and student teaching. The experience was great and it just reminded me on why I choose this profession.
