  2. Sustantivos • “sustantivos” means “nouns” in English.A noun = a person, place or thing. • In Spanish every noun has a gender, either masculine or feminine • Almost all nouns that end in –o are masc. • Almost all nouns that end in –a are fem.

  3. Artículos • “The” in English is called a definite article • There are four ways to say “the” in Spanish.

  4. Singular “the” • Use “el” for masc. nouns • Use “la” for fem. nouns • Examples: • el muchacho la muchacha • el amigo la amiga • el curso la escuela

  5. Plural “the” • When the noun is plural in Spanish, the article must also be plural. • The plural of “el” is “los” • The plural of “la” is “las” • Examples: • Losmuchachos las muchachas • Los amigos lasamigas
