  2. The Chairman and ranking member of minority party Of The Committee • Rep. Bennie G. Thompson • He is serving currently his 9th year in congress for the state of Mississippi and his third term for the committee of homeland security • This is also his second term for being chairman of the committee • He is the first Democrat to serve as a chairman for the committee of homeland security • The current ranking member of the minority party is Peter T. King

  3. History of the Committee • Was established on June 19, 2002 • The committee was the 107th Congress committee in congress and started as a select committee it is now up to 111th Congress committee • The committee was made permanent when a vote was made in January 4, 2005

  4. Duties/legislation • The legislations that pass through are bills having to do with the security of the U.S. it also tends to amending any bills that have to do with homeland security • It also has the power to conduct investigations, hold hearings, and subpoena witnesses. • It also has power over the department of the homeland security
