  2. The village of Villamayor is situated to the West of Salamanca. Its population is of 6000. It is one of the villages which have been growing around Salamanca. VILLAMAYOR

  3. Villamayor is famous for its stone quarries which have been providing stone for the construction of some of Salamanca landmarks such as the Cathedral, the Main Square, both State and Catholic Universities or San Esteban church. VILLAMAYOR

  4. “Virgen de los Remedios” association was created in Villamayor in 1995. Its main objective is to integrate new residents into the cultural and social life of the village. ASSOCIATION “VIRGEN DE LOS REMEDIOS”

  5. MEMBERS • Anyone who is interested in the cultural and social development of the village and cares about the integration of all the residents may join the Association. Most of the members are teachers who work at different levels of the educational system.

  6. Activity of the association The objective of this publication is to inform about local companies and services they provide. STREET DIRECTORY

Activity of the association Its main objective is to inform the residents about recent news from the village and make them aware of the importance of forming part of the group and to promote coexistence values and participation in the social and cultural life of the village. Currently it is not being published due to the lack of advertising. “PIEDRA Y CULTURA” MAGAZINE

  8. Activity of the association BILINGUAL CAMP Bilingual Camp is one of two strategies we developped in order to improve the knowledge of English of children from Villamayor. We started in the summer 2007.  Being aware of the fact that the camp usually starts right after the end of the school year, we opt for an active and pariticipating methodology. Every day there is always a topic and we plan a series of activities related to it using a variety of resources, oral and written materials, music, theatre, etc. And we promote learning English in a fun way. 

  9. Activity of the association BUSINESS PORTAL www.portalvillamayor.com The objective of this project is to promote local companies and the village itself. It is usually amplified by including news and articles on current issues. Nowadays, its viability is being reconsidered due to the fact that the local government has set in motion a similar project.

  10. Activity of the association EUROPEAN INTEGRATION One of our main objectives is to open toward other European countries. Thus, we have decided to participate in Lifelong Learning Programmes which imply getting to know and exchanging educational experiences with people from other European countries.

  11. Activity of the association European Integration • The main objective of this project is to improve the selection and training of teachers, monitors and trainers in order to improve adult teaching. We also aim to analyze some of the effects which these well-trained people may have on the development of the community from the regional and European perspective. EUROPEAN COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS

  12. Activity of the association European Integration SILVER SPANGLISH • The main objective of this Project is to develop cultural and social bonds between elderly volunteers from Salamanca (Spain) and Carlisle (United Kingdom). Both countries offered to the volunteers different learning opportunities and acquiring a variety of skills, both social and educational ones.

Activity of the association European Integration Coordinators ENGLISH EDUCATION DESPITE ALL THE NEGATIVITY • The main objective of this Project is to exchange experiences in teaching English to adults in non formal environments. • We are all looking forward to starting working on this project and we are sure it will be rewarded with the effort and enthusiasm of all the participants.
