  4. Catching • Eyes • Make a target at your chest ( ) • Squeeze the ball with finger pads

  5. Offense vs. Defense • Offense has the ball • Defense is trying to stop the ball

  6. Positions Running back Wide receiver Center Quarterback

  7. Quarterback ( QB) • The offensive player responsible for throwing the ball

  8. Center • The offensive lineman who snaps the ball to the QB .

  9. Wide Receiver • The offensive player whose function it is to catch the football.

  10. Running Back • the offensive player who lines up behind the QB and who is responsible for running the football.

  12. Line of scrimmage • an imaginary line that marks the start of each play.

  13. Down • JSR RULES: the time frame in which a play happens. Each team gets 4 downs on each side of the center line to get a touch down or a first down. • What is the rule of downs for professional football players?

  14. Line of scrimmage

  15. Interception: • a ball thrown by the offensive team that is caught by the defensive team.

  16. Completion • a forward pass that is caught by the receiver.

  17. Incompletion • a forward pass that hits the ground before the receiver can catch and control it.

  18. Touchdown • is scored when the team with the ball runs or throws a pass into the end zone with their flags still attached with no penalties

  19. Fumble • the ball carrier drops the ball while in possession. • the ball is live.

  20. Rushing • when defensive players run at the QB to disrupt or block the play. This can only happen after counting to 3 seconds.

  21. Blitz • a play where the defensive team sends players rushing towards the line of scrimmage as soon as the ball is snapper to try and sack the QB. (only once every 4downs JSR rules).

  22. Scoring Touch down = 7 points ( at JSR) ( must be in the end zone) End zone

  23. Dead ball • A ball becomes dead when: • The ball carriers flag is pulled • Any part of the ball or the player touches the ground ( besides hands and feet). • An incomplete pass • The ball goes out of bounds

  24. Tackling- one flag must be pulled completely off of the ball carrier. You may only pull a flag off a person with the ball.

  25. Blocking • the defensive team may have their hands up and open. This does not mean stiff arming. Your elbows must be bent.

  26. Team advantages • Offense: • Knows count ( when the ball is snapped). • Knows the plays • Defense: • Can use hands • Can use blitz

  27. SAFETY!!! • Avoid buttons and pockets. Shorts/pants that tie are best!! • Make sure the flags are on either sides of your hips and attached correctly.
